It now has the distinction of being the longest running musical in the WORLD, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.
In addition to an Obie Award and the 1992 Special Tony Award for The Fantasticks, Thomas Jones and Harvey Schmidt were the recipients of the prestigious ASCAP-Richard Rogers Award for 1993. On February 1, 1999, they were inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame
